Mary Curtis Ratcliff

Born -

Mary Curtis Ratcliff was one of the founding members of Videofreex before moving to California in 1973.  Ratcliff studied at the Rhode Island School of Design.   Her work has been featured in over twenty solo exhibitions and close to 100 group shows. It is represented in the collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the Oakland Museum of California.

Ratcliff’s current work begins with photographs abstracted from nature or manmade structures. She further develops these compositions through applying layers of acrylic wash, drawing, transfer and collage. The resulting artworks serve a means to discover the interconnectedness of things: as new associations emerge across the space of the image.
